Margins and size
- A4 (210 × 297 mm) is the standard size in India.
- Keep about 15–20 mm of margin so nothing is cut off when printed.
- Keep the header within the top 45–60 mm and the footer within the bottom 25–35 mm.
Letterhead format in Word or Google Docs
- Download your header and footer as PNG images.
- In Word, open Insert → Header, insert the header image and stretch it to the page width; do the same for the footer.
- In Google Docs, click in the header area, insert the image and set it to “In front of text” or “Wrap text” as needed.
- Save the file as a template so every new letter starts with your letterhead.
Industry formats differ: a doctor’s letterhead needs the qualification and registration number, a lab report needs space for patient details, and a GST invoice letterhead must show the GSTIN.
