You don’t need to be a designer to make a letterhead that looks polished. These ten simple rules cover most of what separates a professional design from an amateur one.
- Use one or two fonts at most — one for your name, one for everything else.
- Pick a single accent colour and use it consistently.
- Keep generous white space; crowded headers look cheap.
- Align everything to a clear edge or centre line.
- Make your name the biggest, boldest element on the page.
- Keep small text (address, registration numbers) readable when printed.
- Use a high-resolution logo — SVG or a large PNG.
- Move secondary details into the footer.
- Preview on a full page before you print.
- Print a test copy on your real paper and printer.
A note on watermarks
A faint watermark — such as your logo at around 8–15% visibility — can add a premium touch to a letter pad. Keep it light enough that writing or printed text on top stays easy to read.
Colour and print
Screens show colours brighter than paper. If you rely on a light tint, print a sample to make sure it doesn’t disappear, and prefer darker shades for text.
Try a few designs side by side before you decide — in Sahayak Docs your details carry over whichever design you pick.
