Lab reports are read carefully by patients and doctors, often more than once. A clean, consistent letterhead makes results easier to read and gives the report a trustworthy, professional feel.
Keep the header compact
The report itself — patient details, test names, results and reference ranges — is what matters most. A compact header with the lab name, logo, a one-line description and contact details leaves more room for results and avoids pushing reports onto a second page.
Use the footer for sign-off and trust details
- Name and qualification of the pathologist or authorised signatory
- Registration or licence number of the lab, where applicable
- A short note, for example that the report is electronically authenticated
- Contact details for queries about results
Readability first
- Choose calm colours — deep blues, teals and greys work well in healthcare.
- Make sure the printed text is at least 8–9 pt, including the footer.
- Avoid watermarks that are too dark; they make results harder to read.
Stay consistent
Use the same header and footer on every report, invoice and letter your lab sends. Consistency is what makes a brand recognisable — and it reassures patients that a document is genuinely yours.
